About Deanna C. Johnson

Born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, I have been a lifelong LSU fan and planted firm roots in Baton Rouge over 14 years ago. While attending LSU for my B.A. in Mass Communications, I spent my free time serving hot boiled crawfish at Sammy’s Grill on Highland and building friendships that still matter today.

After graduating from LSU in 2012, I attended Loyola University of New Orleans School of Law and earned my Juris Doctorate in 2017. During law school, I was actively involved in Moot Court and participated in the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice, where I focused on children’s rights and family law. I was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in October of 2017.

My legal background includes extensive experience in family law, divorce litigation, estate planning, and insurance defense. Practicing law is my passion. I am detail oriented, direct, highly competitive, and committed to telling clients the truth so they can make informed decisions. My experience, preparation, and determination make me an advocate you can rely on during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Full-Service Family Law & Divorce Representation in Baton Rouge

Divorce is rarely simple. Whether your case is amicable or highly contested, Magnolia Law provides focused legal guidance designed to protect your rights and your future. As a Baton Rouge divorce lawyer, we help clients understand their options, anticipate challenges, and navigate each stage of the divorce process with confidence.

We represent clients in uncontested divorces where cooperation is possible, as well as contested divorces involving disputes over property, custody, support, and fault based claims. From the initial filing through final judgment, Magnolia Law works to resolve issues efficiently while remaining fully prepared to litigate when necessary.

Divorce representation includes guidance on community property division, separate property claims, spousal support, child custody and support, and post divorce planning. Our approach is strategic, realistic, and focused on achieving outcomes that support your long term stability.

Child Custody and Visitation

Few legal issues are as emotionally charged as child custody disputes. Magnolia Law represents parents seeking fair custody and visitation arrangements that serve their children’s best interests while protecting parental rights.

Louisiana courts evaluate custody based on stability, involvement, safety, and the overall well being of the child. We help clients prepare strong custody cases by addressing parenting history, schedules, education, healthcare, and communication concerns. Magnolia Law also assists with joint custody plans, sole custody requests, and visitation enforcement.

Child Support Matters

Child support plays a critical role in maintaining a child’s standard of living after separation or divorce. Magnolia Law helps parents establish accurate support obligations, enforce existing orders, and seek modifications when circumstances change.

Support issues often arise when income fluctuates, employment changes, or additional expenses emerge. We ensure child support calculations comply with Louisiana guidelines while advocating for fair outcomes that reflect real world circumstances.

Spousal Support and Alimony

Spousal support can significantly affect both parties after divorce. Magnolia Law represents clients seeking or contesting interim and final spousal support.

We evaluate factors such as income, earning capacity, length of marriage, fault considerations, and financial need. Our firm works to establish reasonable support arrangements or challenge unfair requests while protecting our clients’ financial futures.

Community Property and Asset Division

Louisiana’s community property laws can be complex and confusing. Magnolia Law helps clients identify, value, and divide marital assets and debts fairly.

Property division often includes real estate, retirement accounts, businesses, investments, and shared liabilities. We work carefully to distinguish between community and separate property while ensuring that division aligns with Louisiana law and your long term financial goals.

High Net Worth and Complex Divorce Cases

Divorces involving significant assets require careful analysis and strategic planning. Magnolia Law represents clients in high net worth divorces involving businesses, professional practices, investment portfolios, retirement accounts, and complex financial structures.

We collaborate with financial professionals when necessary and develop strategies that protect wealth, income, and future earning potential. These cases demand precision, discretion, and experience, all of which Magnolia Law provides.

Modifications of Custody and Support Orders

Life does not remain static after divorce. Changes in employment, health, relocation, or family circumstances may require updates to custody or support orders.

Magnolia Law assists clients with post judgment modifications, ensuring requests are properly documented and legally justified. We help clients pursue changes efficiently while protecting their rights and maintaining compliance with court requirements.

Relocation and Move Away Cases

When a parent wishes to relocate, custody and visitation arrangements must be reassessed. Louisiana law imposes strict requirements for parental relocation.

Magnolia Law guides clients through relocation notices, objections, and hearings. We help parents present compelling arguments that address how a proposed move affects the child’s stability and relationship with each parent.

Protective Orders and Domestic Issues

Safety concerns require immediate and decisive action. Magnolia Law assists clients seeking protective orders due to threats, harassment, or abuse. We also defend individuals facing wrongful or exaggerated claims.

Our firm handles these matters with urgency, discretion, and respect for the serious consequences protective orders can carry.

Paternity and Parental Rights

Establishing paternity creates legal clarity for both parents and children. Magnolia Law assists clients with paternity actions that establish custody, visitation, support, and parental rights.

These cases are essential for ensuring children receive financial support and meaningful parental involvement under Louisiana law.

Prenuptial and Marital Agreements

Prenuptial agreements provide clarity and protection before marriage. Magnolia Law drafts enforceable agreements that outline asset division, financial expectations, and rights in the event of divorce.

Well prepared agreements reduce conflict and uncertainty while allowing couples to enter marriage with transparency and confidence.

Same Sex Divorce and LGBTQ Family Law

Magnolia Law represents LGBTQ clients in divorce, custody, support, and property matters. Same sex couples in Louisiana follow the same divorce laws as all married couples, and we provide respectful, knowledgeable representation tailored to each family’s needs.

Estate Planning as Part of Family Stability

While divorce and family law are our primary focus, Magnolia Law also offers estate planning services that complement family law representation. Estate planning becomes especially important after divorce, remarriage, or changes in family structure.

We assist clients with wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and living wills to ensure assets are protected and future decisions are clearly defined. Estate planning services are designed to support long term family stability rather than distract from our core family law practice.

Baton Rouge Divorce & Family Law FAQs

How long does a divorce take in Louisiana?

The timeline depends on whether the divorce is contested or uncontested and whether children are involved. Some divorces resolve in months, while others take longer if disputes require court involvement.

What is the difference between contested and uncontested divorce?

An uncontested divorce means both parties agree on all major issues. A contested divorce involves disagreements over property, custody, or support that must be resolved through negotiation or court rulings.

How is child custody decided in Baton Rouge?

Courts focus on the best interests of the child, including stability, parental involvement, safety, and the child’s emotional and physical needs.

Can child custody or support be changed later?

Yes. Custody and support orders may be modified if there is a material change in circumstances such as income, relocation, or changes in a child’s needs.

What qualifies as community property in Louisiana?

Most assets and debts acquired during marriage are considered community property and may be divided during divorce.

Do I need a lawyer if my divorce seems amicable?

Even amicable divorces involve legal rights and financial consequences. Having a lawyer ensures agreements are fair, enforceable, and complete.

How does spousal support work in Louisiana?

Spousal support may be temporary or long term depending on financial need, earning capacity, and other statutory factors.

What happens if a parent wants to move out of state?

Louisiana has strict relocation laws. Courts evaluate how the move impacts the child and the relationship with the other parent.

Are prenuptial agreements enforceable in Louisiana?

Yes, when properly drafted and executed, prenuptial agreements are enforceable and can clarify financial rights in divorce.

How does Magnolia Law approach high conflict divorce cases?

We prepare thoroughly, communicate clearly, and advocate strategically while remaining focused on outcomes that protect your future.
